Mayday Mayday, it is time for the next Country Box. This May edition of the monthly show from Jimmy Adams Promotions is jam-packed with fights and features the return of Clayton Q, who is prepared to once again rock the Texas Troubadour Theater.
Currently, the card could have as many as 9 fights on it. Matchmaker and hall of fame fighter Christy Martin has helped put together a card that should keep the assembled crowd excited and entertained with a mixture of undefeated prospects, wily veterans, and some professional debuts, the recipe for success at a local show. Jimmy Adams is the head of Jimmy Adams Promotions and the architect of Country Box, a unique experience combining Nashville’s best up-and-coming boxing talent with the city’s unique music.
The always-packed show will start with a set from Clayton Q, perhaps featuring his latest release “Kiss My Cash” or some fantastic covers. After he leads off the action will pick up.
Ermes Otra (6-0-0 6 KOs) will look to keep his streak alive in his 4th bout at the Texas Troubadour Theater as he takes the very experienced Rondale Hubbert who has 234 rounds of professional experience to Otra’s 11. Hubbert will be the foil for Otra in this super lightweight fight, the latter of whom is stepping into his first six-round fight. Patience and pacing might be new for Otra who hasn’t even seen a 4th round in his professional career.
In a heavyweight bout, Curtis Harper (14-11-0 9 KOs) will take on Kaleb Slaughter (3-8-1 1 KO) in a 6-round contest. “The Hurt” hasn’t been as active as Slaughter, but does have a better record. Either way with a fight scheduled for six rounds, it would be likely that there are some fireworks in this one and a big knockout.
Returning to the ring after a nearly a year and a half layoff is the undefeated Jocksan Blanco (5-0-0 3 KOs). The native of Caracas, Venezuela has beaten fighters debuting, undefeated foes, and a fighter with 42 fights on his resume. He’ll be prepared for Vonshetha Miller (2-3-0 1 KO). Miller is coming off a win in March and has been the more active of the two. He could have the edge on Blanco in this welterweight contest if he can’t shake off the ring rust.
After a successful outing in Denver rejuvenated his career, Marcel Barlatier (7-0-0 5 KOs) is back in the ring against Ryan Paul Vallier Sanchez (1-2-0 1 KO). This will be Vallier Sanchez’s third fight this year, while it is only Barlatier’s 3rd fight in the last 3 years. The super featherweight bout might be just what Barlatier needs to continue his resurgence. At only 23 his prime years are still ahead of him and a statement win could be his ticket to stardom.
We’ve got a bout in the most underrated division in boxing. Cruiserweight action always provides a good show, and Aaron Cypress (2-0-0 2 KOs) already has two finishes to his record. His opponent Kenshon Carr has had a string of bad luck to start his career, but if Cypress is overconfident Carr could easily break through for the first win of his career.
Another undefeated fighter with a KO streak looking to continue it is Dyron Words. Words (3-0-0 3 KOs) doesn’t have nearly the same experience as the 26-fight veteran Terry Roscoe. Roscoe has 15 times as many rounds under his belt as Words, and Words has been out of the ring for over a year. Could this super welterweight bout be influenced by
Roscoe’s activity and experience could give him the edge in this one, but Words clearly has power and will be hitting the to hurt.
Hometown boy Decarlo Patton (2-0-0 2 KOs) has a two-fight knockout streak to start his career and has the job of welcoming Adrian Howell to the professional ranks. The debuting Howell has a tough out in his very first super welterweight contest.
Fresh off his own debut, Tayvein Alpough (1-0-0 1 KO) is ready for a return at flyweight. With one fight (and one very successful round) to his credit, he is hungry for more action against the more experienced Kenneth Jamerson. Alpough has a weight advantage over Jamerson, which he’ll look to utilize, and will probably look to do as early as possible.
There is also a female debut scheduled, with Precious Harris McCray. She’s still waiting on an opponent and will be ready to thrill the crowd.
Tickets are still available for the fight and as always the fights will be streamed into millions of homes.
