Country Box 17 Results: Ferocious Action & Classic Country

The 17th version of Country Box provided everything that we’ve come to appreciate from the series. Jimmy Adams Promotions signature show provided action from bell to bell and a great country music showing from Cliff Waddell.
The matching making done by Christy Martin, a boxing hall of famer, helped provide a card that was entertaining from front to back. Marc Abrams and 2 time NFL All-Pro Albert Haynesworth provided the play-by-play and color for the several hundred million homes that the fight would be broadcasted to. The manhandling all of the announcing duties in the ring is JT Conway, bringing energy to every moment.
Tobias Green (12-3-0 4 KOs) def Jayson Velez (30-15-1 21 KOs) by split decision
Velez was a former world title challenger, and showed his experience early, dropping Green with a flash knockdown early in the first round. Green popped up quickly but had a lot of ground to make up quickly.
To his credit, post-knockdown Green took the lead by being aggressive. Velez fought well, countering Green and taking his own lead during the fight. It was a back-and-forth battle, with a young fighter trying everything to try to get an advantage over a wily veteran. In the end, it was just enough to eke out a victory. Green won 58-55, 56-57, 57-56, with a split decision and a win over a world title challenger now on his resume at lightweight.
Fernando Cuza Taquechel (4-0-0 2 KOs) def Julio Mendoza (3-3-0 2 KOs) by unanimous decision
These two heavyweights were both active in their four-round bout. Taquechel is tall and long and kept his active jab peppering Mendoza. Mendoza was shorter, and desperate to find his way inside to try and work the body of Taquechel. It was a sound strategy, but not one that Mendoza was truly able to execute. He did force Taquechel to keep throwing punches and keep moving his feet all night though.
Taquechel cruised to a unanimous decision 40-36.
Collin Clarke (1-0-0) def Keyan Williams (0-7-0) by unanimous decision
Clarke made his pro debut against a very game Williams. Clarke wanted to sit down on his shots and get into a slugfest. Williams was very happy to oblige him. Both traded heavy blows and looked to have a genuinely good time tagging each other repeatedly.
This continued for four rounds, but Clarke had the cleaner technique and missed less often than Williams. The super middleweight won by unanimous decision 40-36 on all of the cards.
Vladyslav Sirenko (21-0-0 18 KOs) def Keith Barr (21-16-1 8 KOs) by TKO
After a strong Country Box debut in his last outing, Sirenko was back and again looked very strong. The former WBC Asian Heavyweight title holder moved well and delivered short but crisp shots. Barr was game, athletic, and in shape, always trying to back up Sirenko, but was eating far too many shots in his efforts to get inside.
Sirenko dropped Barr several times, with the fight officially ending after a knockdown at the 2:00 mark of the 4th round. The shot that did it was a strong uppercut, one that you could see Barr’s head snap back after. After a long layoff, Sirenko has two fights in the last three months and has looked good in both.
Maidel Sando (14-0-0 9 KOs) def Twon Smith (3-11-0 2 KOs) by TKO
Sando is well on his way to jumpstarting his career again. From the outset of the fight, he had Smith’s number, landing early and often. His athletic ability kept Smith chasing and missing, while he landed continuously.
Sando’s fight-ending blow was a hard body shot that brought the fight to its conclusion at the 1:36 mark of the 4th round. The Cuban-born Nashville resident is sure to be back in the ring soon for his next exciting fight in the light heavyweight division.
Jorge de Jesus (9-1-0 6 KOs) def Rondale Hubbert (16-31-3 10 KOs) by unanimous decision
In this fight, de Jesus was able to add to his win streak without too much question as to how the fight would go. Hubbert was a game challenger and has been in the ring with a lot of very good welterweight fighters. He moved and fired back at de Jesus, but was unable to land a definitive blow to turn the tide of the fight into his favor.
De Jesus landed when he needed to land and didn’t absorb any serious damage. He won a unanimous decision on the cards 60-53x2 and 59-54.
Alfred Ortiz (1-0-0 1 KO) def Jahterris Lewis (0-7-0) by KO
The pro debut for the featherweight went very well, as he dominated his matchup with Lewis. Ortiz ended the fight in the 1st round, and it was one that Lewis was never really in.
Lindsey Ellis (2-0-0 2 KOs) def Jada Yelverton (0-1-0) by KO
This was the 2nd pro fight for Ellis and her 2nd visit to Country Box. She again brought a strong Chetham County cheering section, and again she came out swinging. Her punches were strong and her technique strong, easily dashing the less-than-stellar defense from Jada Yelverton.
The next Country Box is scheduled for July 2nd and as it takes shape it is already looking like it might be the next most exciting card yet.
