Country Box June 2024: Jam Packed Summer Smackdown
The Texas Troubadour Theater is set to host the biggest Country Box yet
As the months goes on and Jimmy Adams Promotions Country Box series continues to put on quality shows, they grow bigger and bigger.
The June 4th card is slated to be the biggest yet, with 11 fights currently scheduled for the evening. Of the 11 fights, 6 are scheduled for 6 rounds and the other 5 are 4 round contests. All but one of the bouts will be men’s, with one women’s fight currently slated for the docket, starting at 7pm.
Jimmy Adams ongoing series pits rising contenders alongside of locals taking the first steps in their professional careers. Boxing Hall of Famer Christy Martin handles the matchmaking duties and JT Conway handles the in-ring announcing.
On the stage will be Cliff Waddell. He’s best known for songs like “Drinking on an Empty Heart”, “I Found the Lily in My Valley” and “Blues Man”. You can find him regularly with the Twang Gang at Layla’s Honky Tonk on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and on the Texas Troubadour Theater stage next Tuesday.
One of the featured bouts of the evening features the undefeated Maidel Sando (13-0-0 8 KOs) returning to take on Twon Smith as he looks to stay perfect at light heavyweight. The fight is currently scheduled for six rounds. That fight is 1 of 6 bouts featuring an undefeated fighter.
Another undefeated returning fighter is Vladyslav Sirenko (20-0-0 17 KOs) who pairs sound fundamentals with an imposing size and strength. His next test comes in the way of Keith Barr (21-15-1 8 KOs) who as a heavyweight southpaw presents a unique test for the Ukranian contender in their six round fight.
Following a successful first outing on April’s Country Box, Djibril Diakite (8-0-0 6 KOs) will be looking to continue his winning ways. Opposing him will be the most experienced opponent of his career. Another Country Box alumn, Cleotis Pendarvis (22-20-2 9 KOs) has the ability to push Diakite and brings an experience that is impossible to prepare for in their 6-round super middleweight fight.
One of the great aspects of Country Box is getting to see fighters from all over the state come to Nashville to do their thing. Chattanooga’s Khalil Mitchell (4-0-0 2 KOs) makes the trip up to the Texas Troubadour Theater to take on Arsenio Hall (3-9-0 3 KOs) in a six-round light heavyweight bout. No, it isn’t that Arsenio Hall and this version is likely more dangerous. When he wins it is by knockout. Mitchell will have to keep his chin tucked and eyes peeled to get by Hall.
After success at May’s Country Box, Fernando Cuza Taquechel (3-0-0 2 KOs) is staying active, turning around to fight Julio Mendoza (3-2-0 2 KOs). Both fighters have shown power, but Taquechel has a distinct height advantage (6’4” to 5’9”) in this four-round heavyweight matchup.
The lone female fight of the evening features our last undefeated fighter, Lindsey Ellis (1-0-0 1 KO). Her April debut at Country Box lasted an incredibly exciting 47 seconds. Her Cheatham County cheering section was out in full force and probably will be against as she takes on Jada Velverton, who is making her pro debut in the lightweight division.
The most compelling matchup of the evening pits Tobias Green (11-3-0 4 KOs) against Jayson Velez (30-14-1 21 KOs) in a six-round lightweight contest. Velez has the experience edge and has won multiple minor titles, but has struggled as of late. Green is on a winning streak and took on and defeated a similar pedigreed opponent in his last bout at Country Box. He should have the confidence advantage going into the highly anticipated fight.
In the super lightweight division, Jorge de Jesus (8-1-0 6 KOs) will face his most seasoned opponent in Rondale Hubbert. Hubbert has seen everything in the ring, but de Jesus has serious power that Hubbert might have some trouble handling. With the experience comes wear and tear.
There are also two more pro debuts, with Alfred Ortiz taking on Jahterris Lewis (0-6-0 and Collin Clark facing off against Keyan Williams (0-6-0).
Tickets are still available if you’re interested in the only place where you can combine a concert with professional fights. If you’re watching at home you’ll have Marc Abrams and Albert Haynesworth calling the action.
