Since I left Philadelphia, I’ve been looking for a fight. Not to get into one, but to get back to attending and covering boxing.
I think I’ve found the solution to my problem, and Jimmy Adams, the CEO of Jimmy Adams Promotions appears to have found the solution for filling downtime between fights. When the action finishes in the ring, that’s when the action on the stage begins. Country Box has made Tuesday nights all right for fighting, and dancing. The next event will take place on October 3rd, 2023.
That Tuesday’s five-fight card will kick off around 7 pm CT (8 PM ET) at the Texas Troubadour Theater, with a rocking band on stage and plenty of competitive fights inside the ring. This time around music will be performed by Kfhox.
The lineup features matchups such as Tobias Green (10-3-0 3 KOs) risking his recent three-fight win streak against Juan Carlos Pena (32-11-0 23 KOs) who brings a wealth of experience to the ring (the most of any fighter on the card) in a lightweight 6 round contest.
Also scheduled for 6 rounds is Michael Anderson (22-3-1 16 KOS) vs. Marklin Bailey (8-12-0 4 KOs) in a welterweight battle. Anderson has fought for smaller regional titles, winning the UBFAA welterweight title, but losing an IBA belt to world title challenger Greg Vendetti back in 2019. He’s been perfect since, winning five fights in a row. Bailey is no stranger to the TTT, fighting there twice previously to mixed results. He’s also previously shared the ring with talented prospects like Shinard Bunch, Xander Zayas, and Vito Mielinicki Jr.
There are also 3 fights scheduled for 4 rounds, with undefeated fighters looking to hand onto their valuable 0’s. Nashville resident and frequent Troubadour combatant Erick Arellano (7-0-0 5 KOs) will make his 8th appearance in the ring and 8th appearance at the Texas Troubadour Theater, looking to stay perfect against Mike Diorio (1-5-1) who changed his luck last time out, getting his first win and is looking to build. Arellano, who turned pro in February of 2023, has already spoiled 3 other fighter’s debuts, and has won his first 2 fight sets against an opponent. The heavyweight division is always looking for its next attraction and Arellano is on the path to be a contender for consideration.
Juan Davila (3-0-0 2 KOS) stakes his against Weusi Johnson (3-30-1) in a lightweight contest. Davila will be taking on an experienced opponent, and be doing so away from home for the first time, as the Philadelphia area native ventures down to Tennessee. The first road fight can be daunting, and an atmosphere like Country Box is going to be a far cry from the typical Philadelphia club show.
Southpaw Eric Bossler (6-5-0 5 KOs) wants to put last month’s outing behind him and grab another win. He lost by unanimous decision last time out at the Texas Troubadour Theater, but this time does battle with Terry Roscoe (2-19-0) a game fighter who has fallen on a tough skid. Both will urgently use the 4 rounds to try and change their luck.
Tickets are still available at Eventbrite for both general admission and ringside seats. It is also available online and on TV for those unable to attend. The man behind the action is Jimmy Adams, a boxing manager and promoter who has been in the business for over 40 years. He’s previously managed Oliver McCall, Tony Tucker, Bert Cooper, and Riddick Bowe, and now is returning to help bring back grassroots boxing, the backbone of the sport.
Matchmaking is done by Hall of Famer Christy Martin. Calling the action will be Marc Abrams and former two-time NFL All-Pro Albert Haynesworth, which is available on TV
